Early Life:
Joseph Stalin, was born in Gori, Georgia on 21st December, 1879.Joseph's mother, in 1888, managed to obtain him a place at the local church school. Despite his health problems, he made good progress at school and eventually won a free scholarship to the Tiflis Theological Seminary. For several months after leaving the seminary, Stalin was unemployed.
Early Career:
He eventually found work by giving private lessons to middle class children. Later, he worked as a clerk at the Tiflis Observatory. He also began writing articles for the socialist Georgian newspaper, Brdzola Khma Vladimir.
Political Journey:
In 1901 Stalin joined the Social Democratic Labour Party. Vladimir Lenin ,one of the essential party leaders, was impressed with Stalin's achievements and in 1905 he was invited to meet him in Finland. After the Social Democratic Labour Party was divided into the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks party in 1912, Stalin decided to be in the Bolsheviks Party, led by Vladimir Lenin. In November, 1917, Lenin rewarded Stalin for his support of the October Revolution by appointing him Commissar of Nationalities.

Later, Stalin tricked his rival, Trotsky into missing Lenin's funeral by giving him the wrong funeral date. Thus, Stalin was allowed to be the chief mourner and he drew support from the people to be Lenin's successor while Trotsky was believed to be arrogant as he failed to attend Lenin's funeral even though he was Lenin's ideal choice to be the successor of Lenin. This was known from an excerpt from Lenin's will. Stalin also successfully eliminated his other rivals like Kamenev and Zinoviev in the power struggle for being Lenin's successor by pretending to be allies with them to eliminate Trotsky and then formed other alliances to eliminate his former allies like Kamenev and Zinoviev, who challenged his position to be the ruling party's leader.
